WM-card - Design prinsiples
When designing the WM-card system, certain design principles were adopted to facilitate ease-of-use and cost reductions. These include:
‘Expert’ system techniques
The WM-card products have been designed to allow for complex matrices of rules or parameters to enable the user to generate new products simply and quickly without any software modifications.
Single Customer View
The WM-card products have been designed to have the customer as the main access point regardless of products, giving the card operator access to all customer information in one database.
Multi-User
All the systems can run as multi-user - several logical users can use the same physical system. As an example, this would allow 2 or more affiliates from the same company to share the same system. The security system installed allows each affiliate to access its own data without having access to the other affiliates’ data.
Multi-Language
The system uses table driven parameters to enable system messages and invoice information to be delivered in different languages.
Multi-Currency
Multi-currency is supported for transaction capture, authorisation, invoicing and settlement and is fully compliant with EU regulations for processing accounts in the Euro.
Client/Server
All user screens have been developed using client/server technology. The tool we have chosen is PowerBuilder and using ODBC to access the database, the system can be described as totally “open”. As well as improving the user friendliness of the system, allowing users to offer customer and merchant help desk facilities, information on a customer can now be accessed in windows format. Instantly, data can be made available to a wide range of PC applications such as spreadsheets and word processors.
SQL
The system uses HP NonStop SQL database giving much more flexibility for data access and allowing for sophisticated search criteria to enhance the marketing capabilities of the bank. Many of our users already have ERP, SAP and OLAP interfaces.
Standards
Where possible we use industry standards. Standards such as the implementation of ISO 8583 for communication to the financial world, ODBC for client/server communication, TCP/IP and X25 for communications and the SQL database are already implemented within the system. The product is certified according to the EMV, IFSF and PCI standards.
APIs
We recognise that the products will have to co-exist and interface with products from other software vendors and there are defined and documented interfaces (API’s) between all our modules. In particular, we have interfaces that link to ERP products such as SAP and CRM products such as Siebel.
Logica
